I grew up in a creative home. My parents were musicians. My grandfather was a professional saxophone player. Art wasn't something we admired from a distance — it was how our family lived. At 17, I moved to Los Angeles to become an actor with no film industry connections and no roadmap.
I never went to film school. My first project was shot in my garage, standing on a hoverboard, filming my roommates chasing their dream. From there I taught myself everything — editing, equipment, crew, production, budgeting — by doing it. Every barrier taught me something.
In 2023 that work produced Peripheral — made for $105,000, winning Best Narrative Feature at ABFF and securing distribution with BET+. I handled financing, legal, insurance, festival strategy, and distribution myself.

Jordan Tortorello is a filmmaker, entrepreneur, and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree — Hollywood Entertainment, 2026. He is the founder and director of Mixed Media, a Los Angeles-based film studio developing and producing original narrative content.
His debut feature Peripheral won Best Narrative Feature at the American Black Film Festival and is now streaming on BET+. Made for $105,000 with full in-house production — from development and financing through post-production and distribution.
His next film, Crowbar, a psychological thriller, enters production in May 2026. Also in active development: Bradshaw, Mandola, and Method.
Jordan also founded Open Set Collective — a filmmaker education and mentorship program that uses Mixed Media's productions as curriculum, embedding the next generation of filmmakers directly on set.
